La Cathédrale de Port-au-Prince
The Cathedral of Port-au-Prince, also
called Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption is one of the first
cathedrals in the world built entirely of reinforced concrete.

Elle est la réalisation d'une idée de Mgr Alexis Jean-Marie Guilloux. It is the realization of an idea of Mgr Jean-Marie Alexis Guilloux. Ce
dernier fit appel à un architecte nantais, René Ménard, qui dessina le
schéma d'un édifice de 80 mètres de longueur sur 45 mètres de largeur
aux extrémités du transept. The latter appealed to an architect
Nantes, Rene Menard, who designed the layout of a building 80 meters
long and 45 meters wide at the ends of the transept.
Les travaux d'exécution ont débuté sous le gouvernement de Lisius Jeune Félicité Salomon le 13 janvier 1884. The implementation work began under the government of Lisius Felicite Salomon Jeune January 13, 1884.
Elle
est le siège d'un archevêché qui domine tout le site et est sous
l'invocation de Notre Dame de l'Assomption, titre transféré d'une
humble chapelle élevée aux environs, à l'usage des flibustiers, dans un
lieu qu'ils avaient choisi comme refuge. It is the seat of an
archbishop, which dominates the site and is under the invocation of Our
Lady of the Assumption, transferred as a humble chapel built around,
for the use of filibusters in a place that they chose as a refuge.
